National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP)

There is wide spread recognition that to have fair and trustworthy systems in the market place national standards are required. The National Conference of Weights and Measures ( NCWM ) issues has a National Type Evaluation Program ( NTEP ) in cooperation with the National Institute of Standards and Technology. The NTEP has 12 laboratories which carry out the evaluation and successful products are issued an NTEP approved certificate of conformance.

The evaluation is detailed. It evaluates how a product performs and what are the operating characteristics. It also verifies that the features and weighing options of the products meet the required standards.

When a new product or technology is launched the NTEP undertakes finding a certification solution for the new product or technology.
